UNscam With Us!
Scammers work hard every day to find new ways of tricking you out of your money… But UNbankers work harder.
Popular Scams to Watch Out For:
- Romance Scams – When a stranger on the internet pretends to be the person of your dreams in order to quickly grow close to you with the intent to take your money.
- Check Overpayment Scams – A scammer sends a fake check for something but they have overpaid. Once you cash the check, they ask for some of the money back. When the check bounces, you’re out of the money you sent back to the scammer.
- Ransomware Scams – After clicking a malicious link, your computer “locks” and a pop-up prompts you to call a phone number to unlock it. On the phone, the scammer guides you through different steps to take that are actually giving them access to your personal info.
- Elder Financial Abuse Scams – In a variety of schemes that target elderly people, these scammers often pose as trustworthy people, the authorities, or even loved ones.
Our Fraud Fighting Team is here to help! But the first step starts with you: Always be aware.
A Few Things to Remember:
- Don’t send money. Call us before making any requested payment that isn’t a regular or expected expense.
- Take it slow. Scammers are wizards at creating a sense of urgency. “Immediate Action Required” is a big red flag!
- Think before you click. Even if the email sender looks familiar, check the sender’s email address and always check a link’s URL before clicking.
Never hesitate to give us a call when you feel something is fishy. Our experts can spot scams from miles away. Just say “scram!” to a scam.
