UNwind with a Scam Free Summer

Jul 18, 2025

When it comes to protecting yourself from the sizzlin’ summer sun, you already know the basics: wear sunscreen, ginormous sunglasses and a big floppy hat. But when it comes to protecting yourself from this season’s sneakiest scammers, do you know how to keep your accounts from getting burned?

Don’t sweat it if you’re not sure. We’ve got this easy, breezy guide so you can kick back and UNwind with a scam free summer.

Imagine getting a phone call from someone who says they’re with Community Choice and—uh oh—there’s fraud on your account. The caller says they need your help right away. If you don’t act quickly, this could get worse. They just need a few details about your account. If you don’t answer their questions, you account will remain at risk.

Better tell ’em everything, right?

Wrong. Using rapid-fire communication and creating a sense of urgency is how scammers convince people to share sensitive information about their accounts. If someone says your account is under attack, why wouldn’t you want to do whatever you could to stop it?

Unfortunately, instead of stopping fraud, this often results in fraudulent activity. So, how the heck do you avoid being bamboozled by imposter callers?

When in doubt, hang up and give us a call directly. We won’t be offended if you do hang up on an UNbanker in the name of trying to protect your account. It’s good to be overly cautious when it comes to stuff like this.

Remember…

  • Community Choice will never, ever call you to ask for sensitive information such as your full account number, online banking password, card expiration date or CVV code—but a scammer would!
  • No matter what the caller ID says or how convincing the caller sounds, do not share that information over the phone.
  • Seriously, don’t hesitate to hang up!

Call us at (515) 334-8100 to be sure that you’re on a legitimate call with one of our UNbankers. If you receive any suspicious calls, texts, emails or voicemails, contact us immediately.

Pro-tip: Our number is on the back of your card, so you always know how to reach us.
